After decades of dedicated service to Merchants & Marine Bank and the communities we serve, we proudly celebrate the retirement of our long-time past President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board, Royce Cumbest.
Royce’s leadership has shaped not only the culture and growth of our Bank, but also the fabric of Coastal Mississippi. Throughout his tenure, he has guided our organization with wisdom, strength, and a servant’s heart—especially during some of our region’s most challenging times, including periods of economic hardship and natural disaster recovery. His steady hand and deep community commitment made him a trusted leader, not just within our institution, but across the state and region.
From helping families build brighter futures to supporting businesses through both storms and seasons of growth, Royce has always embodied what it means to be a community banker. His impact can be seen in every corner of our Bank—from the lives of our customers and employees to the strong foundation we stand on today.
We are deeply grateful for the legacy he leaves behind: one rooted in service, integrity, and compassion. It has been an honor to work alongside him and to witness the lasting mark he’s made on generations of bankers and community leaders alike.
As we celebrate Royce’s well-earned retirement, we also congratulate Diann Payne on her election as the new Vice Chairman and Lead Independent Director of Merchants & Marine Bancorp, Inc., and Merchants & Marine Bank. We also congratulate Clayton Legear as he, once again, follows in Royce’s footsteps by taking over as Chairman of the Board for both the Holding Company and the Bank Charter.
