Alternatives to Overdrafts

Overdraft Alternatives

M&M Bank encourages customers to manage their financial affairs in a manner that reflects sound judgment and responsibility. From time to time, an item may be presented for payment on an account that does not have sufficient funds. Significant charges can result from overdraft and nonsufficient funds (NSF) fees.

You can avoid or reduce overdraft and NSF fees by:

  • Making a deposit to your account before incurring an overdraft / NSF fee.¹ A transfer from another account or credit card advance may be a means of making a deposit. Charges may apply to transfers and/or cash advances.
  • Apply for a Merchants & Marine Bank line of credit² for overdraft protection. Overdraft items are paid up to a pre-approved limit. These credit lines are assessed a monthly fee1 and interest accrues on any unpaid balances.
  • Linking your Merchants & Marine Bank savings account for overdraft protection. Overdraft items are paid up to the balance of your savings account. There is a fee each time a transfer is required to cover an overdraft.¹
  • Our discretionary overdraft privilege service on eligible accounts. Each item presented without sufficient funds is subject to a per item overdraft / NSF fee.¹

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OVERDRAFT & NONSUFFICIENT FUNDS (NSF) FEES

Merchants & Marine Bank charges a fee for each item presented against insufficient funds, whether that item is paid or returned. This fee will be imposed for overdrafts or insufficiencies including, but not limited to, payments authorized by check, ACH/electronic items, and if you have opted in, ATM withdrawals and debit card purchases.¹

Transactions may not be processed in the order in which they occurred and the order in which transactions are received and processed may impact the total amount of fees incurred on your account. Checks are paid in numerical (check number) sequence with priority given to ATM transactions and electronic items. Some checks may be processed as electronic items.

¹Please refer to our current Schedule of Fees for more information.

²Subject to credit approval.
