Credit Bureau

Equifax, Experian, and Transunion

These are the three largest nationwide providers of consumer credit reports. Their reports contain:

  • Information about your payment history
  • How much credit you have available
  • How much credit you use
  • Information from debt buyers and collectors including medical debt
  • Public information, like bankruptcies, liens, and judgments

Each of these companies will provide one free credit report every 12 months if you request it.

AnnualCreditReport.com will walk you through the steps to obtain your free credit reports. You will be asked to provide personal information and select the report you would like to receive. Once you have selected the report, you will be rerouted to that agency’s site where you will confirm your identity before receiving your downloadable credit report.

Since each report may vary, and information is updated on an ongoing basis, it is recommended that you request one every few months. For example, request Equifax in January, Experian in April, and Transunion in August.

If you prefer, you can also order credit reports by phone or mail:

  • By phone: Call 877.FASTACT (877.327.8228). You will go through an identity verification process over the phone, and your credit report will be mailed to you.
  • By mail: Download the annual credit report request form (requires an Adobe viewer). Print and complete the form, and mail the completed form to:Annual Credit Report Request Service
