Big Beach Brewing’s story starts back in July of 2015, the concept of local dentist Jim Shamburger and his wife, Julie. Lifelong lovers of craft beer, Jim and Julie were excited to receive an at-home brewing kit from their daughter. Each subsequent brew was more well-received by their friends and family members than the last, and they quickly realized their potential as commercial brewers.
Like so many business owners, they decided to take the leap and transform a hobby into a full-time career. What started as a fun DIY project, has turned into an amazing business that is fueled by passion, fun, and creativity.
With the support of their loved ones and the Gulf Shores community behind them, they embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. They found a beautiful piece of land and started the process of building their business from the ground up. By October of 2016, they opened their doors to the community and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
The brewery has a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere and is decorated with charming touches, such as locally sourced wood, swings hanging from tree branches, a wide-open design, and broad windows. Their giant outdoor patio is the ideal place to kick back, relax, and enjoy a refreshing drink and the beautiful weather.
Big Beach Brewing boasts an extensive selection of brews that are sure to suit any palate. From their flagship Hundred Daze IPA featuring citrus and passion fruit to their Rod’s Reel Cream Ale with barley and German pilsner malt, there’s truly something for everyone. Even if beer isn’t your beverage of choice and you’d like to accompany your beer-loving friends to a fun hangout, they also offer a variety of scrumptious wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and classic Chardonnay.
Big Beach Brewing Co. has seen remarkable success in the past few years, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted many small and local businesses. We’re so happy to see how much they’ve accomplished in just a few short years and we’re looking forward to a future filled with even more magical brews!
