The Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act)
The Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act) mandates a nationwide licensing and registration system called the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). Those associates originating residential mortgage loans are required to register with the NMLS.
Once registered, they are provided with a unique MLO (Mortgage Loan Originator) number.
